How to open a DOCX without Microsoft Word or uploading it
Sometimes you only need to read a Word document. Installing an office suite for that is a lot. File Viewer keeps the experience lightweight: your DOCX opens quickly, navigation stays silky-smooth, and the file never leaves your device. No account required.

Open the document locally
Launch File Viewer and choose the DOCX from your device. The browser reads and renders the file locally; GRB Labs does not receive the document. No scenic detour through someone else’s server.
- Launch File Viewer.
- Choose or drop in the DOCX file.
- Read and navigate the rendered pages.
- Close the tab when you are finished.

What local viewing means
The file is processed by code running in your browser rather than uploaded for server-side conversion. Your file stays put. Radical concept. This is useful for private or routine documents when you only need a quick view.
03
Know the limitation
File Viewer reads the document; it does not pretend to be Word. It is read-only, but you can still select and copy text from the rendered document. It does not replace a full editor for complex layout work. Highly specialized Word features may render differently outside Microsoft Word, so use the original application when exact editing or print fidelity is critical.
04
DOCX is not the only thing it opens
File Viewer also opens PDF and SVG files locally in the same lightweight interface. Drop in the file, view it without an upload, and copy what you need when the format contains selectable text. Still read-only. Still no account. Still no scenic detour through someone else’s server.
